Thursday June 24, 2021/ Fixing Our Eyes On Jesus/ Sis. Charneda King-Porte
1. The world is full of so much distraction that if care is not taking, we will get caught up in it and overwhelmed causing us to lose our focus from the one thing that truly matters (Jesus)
The daily news, Financial (Bills), Job Stresses, Spouse, children, and extended family issues
But here’s what Paul tells us in Hebrews 12:2-3
New International Version
2 fixing our eyes (this our spiritual eyes by which we see things in the realm of the spirit) on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
The Passion Translation
2 We look away from the natural realm and we focus our attention and expectation[a] onto Jesus who birthed faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection.[b] His example is this: Because his heart was focused on the joy of knowing that you would be his,[c] he endured the agony of the cross and conquered its humiliation,[d] and now sits exalted at the right hand of the throne of God!
When we fix our eyes on Jesus all our problems get lost in him. For it is only him that we see and at his presence, everything fades away.
Matthew 14:22-33 peter 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said and cried out in fear.27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. don’t be afraid.”28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.
Let us pray that our eyes will be fixed on Jesus no matter what is happening around us.
King James Version
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
Let us pray that as we focus on Jesus, whatever comes our way we will lay them at his feet and leave them there and continue doing the kingdom work.
We have been called to do greater works and this can only happen when our eyes are fixed on Jesus and not the challenges and impossibilities that may be in the way.
One way by which our eyes can be fixed on Jesus is by meditating on God’s word. John 1:1, In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. If the word is God that means the more we expose ourselves to the word the more focus our eyes will stay on Jesus.
What we are exposed to daily we gravitate towards them whether good or bad. However, we have the power to control what we want to see. Psm 1
1. We can cultivate the habit of posting scriptures for meditation in our surroundings to avoid distractions.
2. Playing worship songs and the scriptures throughout the day in our surroundings keeps us focus on Jesus.
3. Engaging in healthy conversations that will lift your spirit up.
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
